As I was sorting through junks to throw out this past week, I came across a box. Good thing I took a look inside before throwing it out because inside were a couple, I was hoping for more, but nonetheless a few old make up products from the '90s that belonged to my Grandma. As soon as I saw them, I knew this would be a suppppper great topic for a post.
Although I was on a super tight schedule, I just couldn't help myself but dipped my fingers in and swatched them. Oh my gosh, the colors, the intensity, if it wasn't so old I would probably use it. All of the products are drug store, most of them still around today. Check them out below.
And their swatches.
From what I can see, my Grandma was also a fan of Revlon. I don't blame her, it seemed that Revlon had quality even back then. Their lipsticks are still pigmented as ever, but I'm not sure if the tackiness is due to the age or that was the formula then. I own a few of their lipsticks from the Super Lustrous line and the formula feels amazing. I have heard many great things about their Moon Drops line, but unfortunately that line is very hard to find in my area. I came across them once or twice, but there was very little color selection and it didn't have the shades I wanted. I know for a fact they have more shades to choose from. One day I will get my hands on them. As for the Powder-On Lipcolor, I do believe that it has been discontinued and for good reason. How do you wear that? It is a powder consistency, unlike a balm or gloss. So do you wear a lip balm and dab the powder over that? As you can see from the above swatch, the color came out really sheer.
"Goes on like a cream, feels like a powder. This full coverage cream makeup applies smoothly, leaves a natural matte finish that lets your skin breathe. Dermatologist tested. Fragrances free. Sunscreen" are the claims word for word on the back of the Revlon Powder Creme Makeup. As I read that, some current Revlon products come to mind, like their Nearly Naked line which applies like a liquid but finishes with a powdery matte finish.
The eye shadow trio was very dry and flaky but nonetheless swatched beautifully. I don't own many if any Revlon eye shadows. But the few that I have tried are also dry and flaky as well. I'm not saying they don't have good shadows, it's just I never come across them and tend to shy away from them. There are many other drug store eye shadows I can use in its place. Dry, flaky, fall outs as it may, Revlon does know how to pack them colors. Old or current, it does not take much to give you that color you see from the pan.
Maybelline, another one of my favorite drug store brand. Again, it might be from the aging, but the powder is really dry and loose. I do have to say that over the years, Maybelline had downgraded their blush quality. The only powder blush I can think of that Maybelline currently has out are their Fit Me line. I tried a few shades and returned them all because the colors did not show up when I attempted to use it. This old blush has more pigment then these new Fit Me blush. Maybe Maybelline should reconsider changing back to the old formula.
From what I understand, Max Factor is no longer a brand sold in the U.S. I believe it is mostly sold in Europe and Hong Kong. Please correct me if I'm wrong. That said, I have never tried any Max Factor products so I cannot have any input for this foundation stick. I will say that from how it swatches, this is a full coverage foundation. It does feel super thick though, but again, the age might be a huge factor.
So there ya have it. The little joys I find while cleaning. Motivation for more cleaning, maybe I'll hit the motherload of all jack pot one day. Nothing excites me more than finding old make up; isn't it exciting to see how make up have evolved? From packing to formulas alike.
I hope you enjoyed today's post. If you did, please gimme a 'like'. Thanks for reading guys. Three days 'til the weekend! :)
